Fascinating History of Moccasins

Loafers are a must-have item in your wardrobe. This type of footwear works for any occasion, whether it's for events, casual outings, work, or just lounging around the house. Their versatility is due to the fact that the designs are generally elegant and comfortable, and they don't have laces, making them very practical.
That's why at Open House we specialize in making this type of footwear. Below, we'll tell you about its origins.
Moccasins are a product created in the American continent. When the colonizers arrived in America, the natives were already using this type of footwear made with untanned leather and soft soles. The model was used by the colonists and taken to Europe where it became popular.
In 1936, an American company developed a line of loafers called Weejuns, which were so successful in the market that women were wearing men's loafers in children's sizes. Later, Weejuns were called penny loafers.
A few years later, a large Italian fashion company arrived to compete with more stylized designs and a wider variety of colors that men with jobs in government and business would begin to wear.
Today, loafers are still a very important garment and add elegance to the wearer.
